GE / IP FANUC Series 90/30 In Stock
This troubleshooting guide is a test of a GE Fanuc IC697CPX928. Note that the door is off so you can better see what is illustrated and the guide will go over all of the LED’s, switches and ports.
The IC697CPX928 is in an IC697CHS750 5 Slot Rack which is empty because this is just a test of the CPU. It’s being powered up by an IC697PWR711 Power Supply.
Go ahead and turn on the power supply and the first thing you should have is a solid OK light, which is what you’re going to need to have. If your OK light is blinking or you don’t have an OK light, then you need to stop right now because you won’t be able to follow the test. That would indicate that there’s something wrong with your processor and is a common problem. If this is the case for you, please see the bottom of this page for links to additional help, repair services and supplies.
So, you have an OK light and the next thing you want to do is connect up to it using Proficy Machine Edition Software that you have. The cable illustrated (see below) to connect is an AS693232SNP cable has LED’s so you can see some type of user interface, that it’s connecting and working.
So, on Proficy Machine Edition you are going to click the lightening bolt, which is the Online/Offline button. You are going to go Online, next you are going to hit the green hand print icon which can toggle to Online Mode. On the bottom portion of the screen it says that it’s Programmer Enabled, Stop Disabled, Configuration Not Equal, Logic Not Equal, so you’re going to go through and fix that.
The first thing you want to do is go to Target > Online Commands > Clear > Controller Fault Table & I/O Fault Table, the bottom two selections. Don’t clear anything else because you may be clearing information – if you clear too much information, you might lose something that you need.
So, again Controller Fault Table and I/O Fault Table > Click OK and then you are going to Download & Run which is the Download Information & Run button – icon rather. It’s going to build – it’s going to first ask you to download to controller, what is it that you want to download to the controller – just Hardware Configuration & Logic, that’s it, nothing else, no force values, nothing to the flash memory.
What you’re trying to do, the goal is to get the processor into Run Mode and then we can test the other features of the processor itself. So, as soon as this is done building and Configuration and Logic become Equal, you’ll be able to get it into Run Mode.
Okay, so you’re in Run Mode now. Your middle LED is On but it may appear to be a little bit soft for you viewing it, but it is On. What you’re going to do here is you’re going to test this toggle switch.
The Toggle Switch has three positions, currently it’s in Run Enabled with Outputs. So, you are going to take it out of Run Enabled which is the bottom LED, it should go off and if it does then the next step down is Output Disable. If that’s okay then it will go off. So, now you have Outputs Enabled and then the Run Mode On.
Next thing is the Memory Protection Switch, they key at the top.
Once I turn this Memory Protect key on you are going to be looking for a light on the Memory Protect, the LED, and that tells you that that feature is enabled and it’s working.
The next thing is we’re going to check these ports, so when I remove this cable this programming cable and put it onto Port #2 which is the middle port we’re going to be looking for the middle LED on the right hand side of this group of LED’s to start blinking and that’s going to indicate to me that we have communication between the cable. If you do see the LED ligh up then you know its working perfectly.
Alright so the next thing you are going to test is Port #1, it’s a different type of cable looks like a phone jack on one side, serial port on the other side and the cable’s part number is IC693CBL316.
So, you are going to go ahead and plug this in, you are going to plug the other end into the serial port on the computer and again you’re going to be looking for a flashing LED and if you have that everything’s working fine.
If you’re able to follow this test and you’re able to get through all those different parts mentioned here and features and get it into run mode, that’s good.
If you think that you’re having a problem with the CPU then you should let it run in this situation maybe add something on the top so that it heats up a little bit and kind of put it in more of a working situation, leave it running over night or maybe a couple of days or a weekend and what you’re trying to do with that is you’re trying to see that the processor stays in Run Mode over a weekend or over a couple days
If for some reason the processor kicks itself out of Run Mode then there’s definitely a problem with the processor and what you want to do in that case is go back to Proficy Machine Edition, go into Target and under Diagnostics click Diagnostics and your Info Viewer will pop up and it will show a Fault Table Viewer. This will tell you if the Controller Fault Table or I/O Fault Table or whatever problem there is with the processor, it’s going to have Line Items and however many faults that there are. You can click on them and some are easy to understand while others are a bit cryptic and you may need help interpreting them.
