ReBiS Reconfigurable Bipedal Snake Robot Can Walk On Its Head & Tail

There is a growing trend in the robotics industry of modeling robots after animals, especially those who have unique defense mechanisms, movements, and the ability to generate extreme speed through their motions.

Snakes are fascinating creatures in general, but in robotics, they provide an incredible inspiration to engineers because of all the impressive things snakes are capable of doing.

A new robot called (Reconfigurable Bipedal Snake Robot) is based off the way a snake moves but also employs unique moves like the ability to use its head and tail as legs in order to stand up and walk around.

The snake robot is also capable of refiguring itself into a bipedal, which is very cool.

“ReBiS – Reconfigurable Bipedal Snake Robot,” by Rohan Thakker, Ajinkya Kamat, Sachin Bharambe, Shital Chiddarwar, and K. M. Bhurchandi, was presented at IROS 2014 in Chicago.
