Samsung just acquired a 2-year-old home automation startup company, SmartThings, for $200 million in an effort to revamp the home appliance industry.
SmartThings is a company that launched in order to make home-automation products capable of communicating with each other, for example you refrigerator talking to your microwave.
SmartThings’ CEO Alex Hawkinson said, “With Samsung behind us, we will be able to attract more device makers and developers to unlock the limitless possibilities of the consumer internet of things.”
Of course people in the tech community are pointing to one big reason why Samsung acted fast and made this acquisition…
Does Google buying home-automation company, Nest, for an incredible $3.2 billion earlier this year ring a bell?
