GE / IP FANUC Series 90/30 In Stock
Two 18-wheeler trucks in Nevada recently successfully completed a test utilizing automation technology to improve safety and fuel efficiency.
Essentially, a computer-assisted truck maintained 33 feet of distance between itself and the other truck, being operated by a human.
The drivers in the trucks utilized a technology similar to adaptive cruise control from the company Peloton Tech in order to basically steer and eliminate both acceleration and braking from the trip.
Peloton Tech also equipped the trucks with antennas, a radar detector, real-time video, and a GPS system to ensure safety.
This new technology results in the lead truck using 4.5 percent less fuel, while the rear truck can save upwards of 10 percent.
According to Peloton Tech, its system could help the trucking industry “save more than $6 billion of diesel fuel annually.”
