The Future of Uber to Feature a Self-Driving Fleet of Taxis?
In a recent interview at Code Conference in Southern California, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick expressed his views on self-driving cars saying, “Love it. All day long.”
Kalanick expanded mentioning, “The reason Uber could be expensive is you’re paying for the other dude in the car. When there is no other dude in the car, the cost of taking an Uber anywhere is cheaper. Even on a road trip.”
It makes sense for Uber to transition to self-driving cars eventually, and while it could result in many drivers losing their jobs or extra income, the self-driving fleet might be a necessity to evolve with the times moving into the future.
Perhaps the most positive effects of this transition would be cheaper costs for Uber users and a more environmentally friendly approach.
Regardless, Kalanick acknowledges the idea of a self-driving fleet of Taxis is still a ways off but he makes it clear he would support the idea should the company ever decide to cross that bridge.
