Meet Jimmy: Intel’s 3D-Printed, Open Source Consumer Robot!
Intel sees their latest creation, a 3D-printed robot named Jimmy, as the future of robotics.
Later this year, an open source robot kit will be released allowing the public the opportunity to 3D-print their own robot like Jimmy, capable of walking, talking, dancing, and tweeting among other functions.
Intel’s main goal is to lower the price for the public to get involved in entry level robotics. In fact, the open source robot kit is rumored to be approximately $1,600, which is not bad for your own personal robot.
The open source feature is intriguing because you can literally program your robot to do things that other robots cannot do.
Similarly, users can share their developments with each other, almost like an app store for customizing your personal robot!
