GE / IP FANUC Series 90/30 In Stock
The University of Colorado at Boulder is developing 1,000 small robots they call Droplets, with the main goal being to develop a colony of “swarming” robots similar to ants or bees who work together in order to get things done.
Each Droplet has an awareness of every other robot, including distance and orientation, allowing for Droplets to work individually but for a much larger goal as a group.
Amazingly, Droplets can work forever because they are powered by electrical energy from a special powered floor, meaning they never have to be recharged.
One suggested application for Droplets is mapping oil spills in the ocean through the robots communicating various GPS locations to one another and mapping out the entire affected area.
UC Boulder is in the process of raising $10,000 for further development of the army of 1,000 Droplets.
