New PACSystems RX3i Updates To Help OEMs & Systems Integrators

The holy grails of industrial engineering automation are to provide equipment builders with new embedded technology and automation that meet industry standards and improve the performance. High performance automation platforms must be easy to configure, simple to use, easy to manage and upgrade while, over time, becoming smaller and less complex.

In addition, superior performance, increased uptime, reduced development time, reduced installation cost and a “build as you go” capability are desirable.

The mantra being heard far and wide is: connected machines, connected data, connected insights and connected people.

New PACSystems RX3i Modules

GE’s PACSystems RX3i, part of the PROFINET industrial distributed I/O network is known for its high-speed processing and throughput, universal backplane busses, advanced programming and performance, ladder logic and open communications, among others

GE recently added three new modules to the PACSystems RX3i providing OEMs and systems integrators with three ethernet-based communication modules/protocols to improve access to data and time stamping of events using object oriented programming. The new modules incorporate fiber optics and enable communication between the SCADA level and Intelligent Electrical Devices.

Uniting Control & Software Layers Under Common Architecture

According to Mark Reitzel, GE Intelligent Platform’s Mission Critical Segment Leader proprietary networks are now being replaced with ethernet LANs and modern automation systems so that industrial companies can improve device-level connectivity, network reliability, and deployment. Says Reitzel “data from machines can now be leveraged to improve operations.

In essence, control systems with open standards are now being used to connect third-party devices for OEMs & Systems Integrators for both small and large infrastructure projects. The new modules are a small part of the Industrial Internet which is allowing for new business models  that reduce engineering time, improve time-to-market and promote more reliable communication over longer distances.
