New Software Turns Conventional Military Helicopters Into Unmanned Drones!

The Autonomous Aerial Cargo/Utility System, commonly referred to as AACUS, is an incredible software for military helicopters developed by Near Earth Autonomy.

The software is basically a set of sensors that can transform a conventional manned helicopter into an unmanned drone that can be piloted remotely by tablet.

Why Is It Significant?

Think about all the hostile situations or dangerous battle zones where we need to fly in a helicopter to deliver support, food, supplies, weapons, etc. but don’t want to put the pilot in grave danger.

Thanks to this new software, unmanned helicopters can fly in to pick up wounded soldiers and deliver goods while eliminating the danger for human pilots.

How Does AACUS Work?

AACUS utilizes its Lidar, which is remote sensing technology, as wells as a scanning laser rangefinder to survey safe landing areas and scan for potential obstacles or hazards.

Also, AACUS sensors receive directions from an algorithm designed to identify terrain to be avoided (identified by red squares) and safe landing spots (identified by green squares).
