Google and manufactures perusing automated vehicles are continuing to work with scientists around the globe to make your dream of riding comfortably in an automatized vehicle a reality.
Researchers at major universities such as University of California Los Angeles recently took part in studies on vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure connectivity to determine whether or not these automated vehicles may one day become a reality on the roads and if such an inventions is truly realistic in minimizing traffic and reducing vehicle fatalities.
A common consensus among companies working on these products is that complete automation is still in the distant future; however, researchers believe that cars have already taken steps to incorporate some degree of automation with cruise control and some of the automotive parking technologies available on certain vehicle models.
The idea behind vehicle automation is to progress some of the current technologies such as cruise control to become adaptive and change based on the surrounding environment.
Little by little, these technologies are expected to transition to semi-automatic vehicles by the end of the decade. Semi-automatic vehicles wouldn’t let you completely take your eyes off the road, but it may allow you to become the overseer of the car instead of the one entirely responsible for driving it.
The eventual goal is for drivers to one day be able to go about their business much the same way as if you were a passenger on an airline or train. Perhaps cars might one day become more of a luxury office space to conduct business rather than an inhibiter to production as people commute back and forth to work and waste valuable time.
