The GE Fanuc IC693CPU374
GE introduced the 90-30 series—a family of controllers, I/O systems and specialty modules—in 1988. The series was originally intended to run through the 1990’s, but it remains in operation in numerous facilities at the time of this writing. The 90-30 series uses the IC693CPU374 processor unit with built-in Ethernet. While this CPU unit does not have any serial ports, it can be programmed via the serial port in the power supply. You can also program the unit directly through its RS-485 bus. The IC693CPU374 is compatible with both the DOS-based LogisMaster software (no longer supported) and the Windows-based VersaMax and Prophecy software packages.
The 90-30 series is a rugged type of PLC that has endured well beyond its initially planned life cycle. This is due to the fact that the 90-30 series has been widely installed across multiple types of facilities—as well as its expandable design and wide availability of different intelligent modules. Initially, the 90-30 series used older models of processors that did not contain built-in Ethernet capability. For this reason, the IC693CPU374 eventually became the CPU of choice for this PLC system. The 90-30 and other GE PLC systems make automation and integration fluid and easy due to their high degree of flexibility.
