A New Trend of Small, Huggable Robots Is Taking Off!
There is a trend of small, cute and squishy robots taking place and “The Glaucus” is the latest huggable robot to come along.
Named after the blue sea slug, The Glaucus is an open source quadruped made of silicone and wax, featuring bladders and internal chambers to replicate geometric computer models.
“When either of these chambers is pressurized, it deforms and bends the robot’s legs and sides,” writes Glaucus’ creator, Matthew Borgatti. “This bending produces the walking motion. It is similar to how a salamander walks, by balancing itself on a pair of legs diagonal from one another while moving the opposite pair forward.
