SLC 500 Troubleshooting: Appendix

  1. Downloading SLC 500 User program: To download user program to an SLC 500 controller, the user must open the user program that is intended to be downloaded to the controller. Proceed with the configuration of RSLinx and define the driver to be used to communicate with the controller.
    •   1. Configure RSLinx:
      1. Launch RSLinx. Click the windows menu and type “RSLINX”
      2. From the RSLinx window, go to Communication > Configure drivers
      3. On the drop-down menu, select configure driver. In this example, Ethernet is used.
      4. A new window will appear confirming your selected driver. User may rename the driver or leave it as it is.  Press OK to close the window.
  • 2. Configure System Communication
      1. Return to RSLogix 500 Main interface. From the Comms menu, select System Comms.
      2. Then in the popup Communications window expand the configured drives to show browsed and connected devices. Proceed with downloading the user program.
      3. Before actual download to commence, the user may be asked to save the program. Proceed with saving and appropriately naming the user program.
      4. Program download will commence.
      5. Go ONLINE with the processor.
      6. Set controller to RUN mode.
