GE / IP FANUC Series 90/30 In Stock
The Kinetis KL03, pictured above, has a wafer-level chip scale package that measures just 1.6 x 2.0 mm making it the smallest ARM based micro-controller in the world.
It contains a Cortex-MO+ core running at 48MHz, powered by 1.71-3.6V voltage runs. The device uses a ROM based “boot loader” to facilitate factory programming. According to Rajeev Kumar of Freescale Semiconductor, “we see the miniaturization of Multipoint Control Units (MCU) as a key driver of the Internet of Things (IoT) evolution.”
Typical CISC x86 processors used in most personal computers are now being replaced by the “Reduced Instruction Set Computing” (RISC) architecture created by ARM Holdings of the UK. ARM designs and develops instruction sets an architecture for ARM based products, but does not manufacture any products itself.
ARM technology is used in consumer electronic devices including smart phones, multimedia equipment, pocket calculators and PDAs. The technology is becoming ubiquitous and is now used in the following areas:
ARM, a global semi conductor intellectual property (IP) supplier, invests in research and development to design new technology that is then licensed to its hundreds of global semiconductor suppliers. ARM makes money through licensing agreements and fees while semiconductor suppliers earn significantly more in profits and forego significant costs associated with R&D.
ARM’s RISC architecture has significantly reduced the cost, heat and power requirements of semiconductors while designing them to be lighter, more portable, and power efficient. 50 billion ARM processors were manufactured as of 2014 with 20% being produced in 2013 alone with 95% of smart phones, 35% of digital televisions and 10% of mobile computers using ARM processors.
