The MELSERVO HC Series is a Mitsubishi product platform for Digital Servo Motors. Its models are designed to be long-lasting, versatile, and fully optimized. It offers low inertia and small capacity models with an absolute position detector. It also has ultra-low inertia servo motors and middle inertia, middle capacity servo motors with absolute position detectors. MELSERVO HC servo motors have rated speeds (p/min) ranging from 1000 to 8192. Each servo motor might have different power requirements such as kW, current consumption, and other power specifications. However, most MELSERVO HC servo motors comply with EN directives, UL/C-UL standards, and others. In addition, MELSERVO HC servo motors are compact and fully optimized, making them an excellent cost practical choice for factory automation. These devices are designed to give users excellent flexibility when it comes to installation. The performance of these motors has improved over previous product lines from the manufacturers. In terms of installation, users should place these devices on noncombustible material. Because installing them directly on or near combustibles will result in a fire. It is also critical to install the equipment in a load-bearing location following the manufacturer's guidelines. Furthermore, environmental conditions should be considered before using and storing the servo motors. For example, the appropriate ambient temperature for the operation is 0 to 40 ℃ (non-freezing). Correspondingly, the MELSERVO-HC servo motors' ambient storage temperature ranges from -15 to 70 ° C. (non-freezing). Aside from that, the non-condensing humidity should be at least 80% RH for servo operation and 90% RH for storing these units.

2. Servo Amplifiers

Servo solutions by Mitsubishi Electric serve applications demanding high speeds with good accuracy. These servos could be one-touch or multi-axis. Amplifiers in the MELSERVO system work well with motors that have linear or rotary motion.

MELSERVO-J4 Series

MELSERVO-J4 encompasses all-digital technology, is safe for the operating staff and the environment, and features a novel design to make it an energy-efficient product. Different products in this series support various interfaces for issuing commands.

Catalog number MR-J4-GF(-RJ) is compatible with the CC-Link IE Field Network and supports SSCNET III/H communications, depending upon the model. It works in a complete closed loop, and it is capable of performing interpolation control, as well as advanced synchronous control. It may be powered via a power supply rated at 100V, 300V, or 400V AC. Servos from the MELSERVO-J4 series mainly support DD motors, as well as rotary and linear servo motors.

MELSERVO-JE Series

Servo modules in the MELSERVO-JE series bring together features of easy use and basic performance with reliability. It provides its users with the option to adjust controller gains with just one touch. Some modules of this series feature an absolute position detection system, while others have a built-in function to know the position. The MELSERVO-JE series ensures high performance, and it is compatible with various global standards.

3. Servo Motors

In the MELSERVO servo line, there are linear, rotary, and direct drive (DD) motors.

HG Series of Motors for MELSERVO-J4

  1. The HG-KR and HG-MR sub-series of motors have a small capacity and low inertia. Their capacity lies between 50W and 750W. The HG-KR sub-series has general-purpose machinery for an industrial setting, while the motors within the HG-MR sub-series are suitable for operations demanding a high throughput.
  2. HG-SR motors have a medium capacity in the range of 0.5kW to 220kW. Its inertia is also medium. It is suitable for use in material handling applications, robots, loaders, unloaders, and much more.
  3. The HG-JR sub-series has medium to large capacity (ranges between 0.5 and 220kW) servo motors. These motors go well in the food packaging industry, as well as printing machines, the press industry, and so on.
  4. The HG-AK sub-series has compact machinery with a small capacity in the range of 10W to 30W. it is suitable for systems needing small capacity motors like semi-conductor manufacturing systems, electronic component manufacturing, etc.
  5. The HG-RR sub-series has a medium capacity and very low inertia servo motors. These motors are good for applications requiring a high throughput, such as material handling, roll feeders, etc.
  6. The HG-UR sub-series motors have a flat structure and medium capacity. These motors are suitable for applications that have limited mounting space, like robots and conveyors.

HG Series of Motors for MELSERVO-JE

  1. The HG-KN sub-series has low inertia and small capacity servo motors. These are suitable for applications such as PCB drilling and embroidery or knitting machines.
  2. The HG-SN sub-series include medium capacity motors with medium inertia. These motors go well with applications in which the required load inertia is large.

LM Series of Motors for MELSERVO-J4

The LM series belong to linear servo motors which are used generally used for linear motion systems needing accuracy with high speed.

  1. The LM-H3 has a 3 m/s maximum speed. Its core is wound to save space. It is a highly rigid motor.
  2. The LM-F has a 2 m/s maximum speed. Its core is also compact. It has an in-built liquid cooling system.
  3. The LM-K2 has a maximum speed of 2 m/s. its core is designed to have counter force in magnetic attraction, which makes this machine less noisy, thus, extending the life of linear guides.
  4. The LM-U2 has a maximum speed of 2 m/s. it is a cordless machine. It might experience slight speed fluctuations when there is no cogging.

TM Series of Motors for MELSERVO-J4

Direct Drive motors are quite compact yet provide control with high accuracy.

  1. TM-RG2M and TM-RU2M are low-profile motors. They could be flange type or table type.
  2. The TM-RFM has high torque and high rigidity.

4. Networks

CC-Link Field Network

This is an open network with an Ethernet basis. This network works well for distributed control, safety control, I/O control, and motion control simultaneously. Its operation cycle is two (2) times faster than that of previous models. It can be set up easily.

SSCNET III/H

This network comes with amazing fast speed to the tune of 150Mbps full duplex. This network uses optical fiber technology, which makes it suitable for synchronization at high speeds. This communication system allows for a reduction in the cycle time of the machine. It also makes wiring easy and safe leading to a simple and quick start-up.

Selecting Models for Controllers and PLC CPUs

Based on the system size:

  • The MELSEC iQ-R series is for medium to large-scale control.
  • The MELSEC Q series is also for medium to large-scale control. This series introduced the idea of incorporating more than one CPU architecture.
  • The MELSEC L series is for medium to large-scale control. It is baseless and, therefore, suitable for applications with limited space.
  • The MELSEC iQ-F series is suitable for small-scale and stand-alone applications. This controller has amazingly high performance.
  • The MELSEC iQ-R series is also for stand-alone and small-scale applications.
