The IC697RCM711 is a Redundancy Communications Module designed for the GE Fanuc 90-70 series
. The IC697RCM711 is a single slot module with five LEDs that emit the status of the board and system. The module is designed to offer a path for a synchronizing message from the active to the backup unit. The IC697RCM711 module is also the route for the transfer of I/O data shared between both units. There are two connecters, one located on the top of module and another on the bottom. The top connector is used for attaching the upstream BTM or BRM, and the bottom connector is not used. The IC697RCM711 module requires 0.7 amps of current and is configured using MS-DOS software. The module features a high speed parallel bus interface and supports configurations that are Hot Standby and Hot Standby CPU Redundancy system constructed.

The IC697RCM711 uses a single slot between slots 2-9. The aforementioned LEDs are labeled Board OK, Local Ready, Local Active, Remote Ready, and Remote Active. The IC697RCM module is also equipped with a pushbutton that allows the user to manually switch from the active unit to the backup unit, which permits maintenance for the previous active unit while the system is online. Once a switch is made, there will not be another switch allowed for 10 seconds by the system.  When installing the IC697RCM711 module, the user should refer to the Hot Standby CPU Redundancy User’s guide or the Enhanced User’s guide. The power on the rack needs to be turned off before installation. Once installed and the appropriate cable is connected, the power can be turned back on.
