IC697MEM731 is a 32-Bit CMOS Expansion Memory manufactured by GE Fanuc for the 90-70 series. This memory is available in four versions, including 128 KB, 256 KB with 256 KB non-volatile flash memory, 256 KB, and 512 KB. Installed as a daughter board, IC697MEM731 resides in the same slot as the module. Therefore, it does not require any additional slot and can be configured for data and program storage. In addition to features noted above, IC697MEM731 provides expansion of 780, 781, 782, 788, and 789 CPUs, parity generation, and checking for each byte of SCRAM and error checking via CPU checksum routine.

In the event of power loss, memory is saved by the lithium battery strategically placed at the baseboard housing. This battery is catalogued as C697ACC701. Apart from maintaining user memory when power is removed, the lithium battery is in charge of running the calendar clock on the PLC CPU. The user must be sure to install the new battery before attempting to remove the old battery. The battery has an extended shelf life of 10 years and should remain at 20 degrees Celsius (or 68 degrees Fahrenheit). Memory retention is typically 6 months nominal without applied power. Flash memory, on the other hand, is retained in the event of power loss with or without a battery connection. Logic program memory is continually error-checked by the PLC CPU as a background task. During installation, only a #1 Phillips screwdriver is necessary to install IC697MEM731 memory in the field.
