The GE Fanuc IC697MDL740 is a discrete output module that can be used to power devices like motor starters, solenoids and indicators. These loads can be connected to one of the module's 16 outlet points that are grouped into clusters of four points. The output provided to each of these points is 24/48 Volt direct current at a rate of 2 amperes per point of long-term current. The input surge conduction capacity of the IC697MDL740 is, however, more significant than 2 amperes. Each of the output point clusters has a common 10-ampere fuse.
The face of the module hosts a series of LED indicators giving the status at different locations of the circuit and the fuses.
The IC697MDL740 does not call for a DIP or jump switches for its configuration. Configuration can be carried out by the user through a Windows 96 or Windows NT running a Windows or MS-DOS software. This process is carried out using the SNP port or Ethernet TCP/IP.
Furthermore, the user is allowed to configure the IC697MDL740 such that the output points get turned off or continue in the existing state.
A mechanical key is provided with each IC697MDL740 to customize a slot to accommodate the module. The key is inserted into the back plate of the IC697MDL740 such that it slides into the centre of the slot where the module is initially installed in. This key stays in the groove even after the removal of the module to prevent accidental misuse of the slot. However, this accessory can be removed if necessary after the extraction of the IC697MDL740. The removal of the module can be carried out by manipulating the clips securing it to the slot.
