Product Description

The GE IC697MDL651 is a 32-point discrete input module part of the Series 90-70 Programmable Controllers.  It features 32 TTL compatible input points with each input having a pullup resistor. Thus, user power is not required. The input filter selectable is 1ms or 10ms and one input is configurable as interrupt. There are LED indicators present on the top of the module, which provide information about the ON/OFF status of each point of the circuit’s logic (or PLC) side. The rated voltage of IC697MDL651 is 5 volts DC. There are 32 inputs per module with 98.4 (30m) maximum cable length. Isolation is 1500 volts. Input voltage range is between -3 and +7 volts DC. Input characteristics of the module include impedance of 5.9K ohms, ±5%; on-state voltage of -3 to 0.5 volts; off-state voltage of 2 to 7 volts; typical on-state current of 1.7mA at rated voltage and maximum off-state current of 1.1mA. The current required from 5V bus is .53 amp. In addition, the system is designed to support the VME standard C.1.

The IC697MDL651 module is mechanically keyed in order to ensure a similar type in the field can correctly replace it if needed. I/O references can be configured by the user without the need to use DIP switches or jumpers on the module. The above-mentioned mechanical key the module comes with prevents unintended substitution of the wrong module type in the same slot. The key is designed to fit an area on the board below the connector that has a unique shape.  It is important to note that in a IC697 PLC rack, the leftmost position is reserved for a power supply only. In addition, one spot located next to the power supply needs to contain a CPU or a Bus Receiver Module. The input module’s design allows it to have negative logic characteristics. This means it sinks current running from input device to the user common. IC697MDL651 is compatible with different input devices such as limit switches, pushbuttons, selector switches, BCD outputs, counters as well as other TTL compatible outputs.

To configure the device, use the configuration function of Windows or MS-DOS software running on Windows NT or Windows 95 through the SNP port or over Ethernet TCP/IP.  IC697MDL651 is configurable to have 1 ms or 10 ms filter delay time. Configuration is not a per point basis but rather on a module basis, which means that all points have the same filter time. Whenever the IC697MDL651 is used with IC697 CPU, input point A1 can be configured so to cause a CPU interruption either on the falling or the rising edge of signal transition. Input filter time selection does not affect interrupt response. In terms of field wiring, a single connection is required between the module common and user common. This is due to the fact the 32 points share a common. However, for wiring convenience, two connections are provided.
