Product Description

The IC697CPU789 is a single-slot, Expandable PLC designed to provide triple modular redundancy in sensitive IC66* applications.
Note: To provide this redundancy, a set of C program blocks are required. Operation of this device is possible by a hardware three-position run/stop switch or by IC641 software from a computer. Device status is indicated by four LED lights.

A backplane connected to the rack allows this device to use several I/O modules, including IC697 LAN interface modules; coprocessor, communications, and alphanumeric display modules; IC660 and IC661 bus controllers; I/O link interface modules; and IC697 discrete and analog modules. Note: IC697 modules are supported only in simplex mode.

All device calculations are performed by a 16MHz 80386DX microprocessor. Each Boolean function is calculated at 0.4 microseconds. Supported inputs and outputs are as follows: Diverse combinations of up to 12K discrete I/O in simplex mode only, 2048 voted discrete I/O, 8K analog I/O in simplex mode only, and 1024 voted analog inputs.

The IC697CPU789 supports expandable memory in the form of an expansion board. This expansion provides 512 KB of memory. Of these 512 KB, about 200 KB are used to store program data. All memory is maintained by an on-board lithium battery.

A serial, parallel, or Ethernet connection to a computer loaded with IC641 software is used to program the IC697CPU789. The programming computer may use MS-DOS or Win 95/Win NT operating systems. No jumpers or Dual Inline Package (DIP) switches are required. Options to protect programming data include a software password and a hardware switch.

To properly install this device, follow the instructions in the product documentation. The run/stop switch should be in the stop position. Rack power and the hardware memory security switch should be off. Using the proper screwdriver, connect the expansion board. Place the CMOS battery into one of the appropriate connectors. Insert the device into the first available rack slot. Turn rack power back on.
