Product Description

The IC697CPU772 is a single-slot PLC CPU with expandable memory manufactured by GE Automation and Controls.
It is capable of controlling industrial machinery and processes in real-time. A backplane mounted to the rack is used to communicate with various I/O modules. The IC697CPU772 has a 12MHz 80C186 microprocessor capable of floating point calculations at speeds of 0.4 microseconds per Boolean function. Up to 8K analog I/O is supported by this device, along with any mixture of 2K inputs and outputs.

Various coprocessor and communications modules are supported by this device in addition to IC697 LAN interface modules, IC660/IC661 bus controller modules, and link interface modules. This device also supports all of the discrete and analog I/O modules from the IC697 family.

The IC697CPU772 is configured and programmed by software running from an attached computer. Configuration via dual inline package switches and jumpers is not required for this device. Programming this device is possible via serial, parallel, or Ethernet connection using either MS-DOS or programs running on Win 95 or Win NT. Setup and configuration for this device is secured with password protection.

To operate the IC697CPU772, use either the three-position switch or an attached computer with the correct software installed. A memory expansion board is required for this device to function. This expansion provides up to 512 kilobytes of data memory. Memory (RAM) is maintained by the battery. The CPU must be initialized by a connected computer before the memory board can be installed.

To install the IC697CPU772, refer to the product’s documentation. Power should be turned off before attempting installation. Put the control switch into the stop position. Install the memory expansion board. Connect the CMOS battery to the device. Insert the device into the first slot of the rack. Restore power to the rack.

Customer Questions and Answers

  • Question:  What is an IC697CPU772?  Answer:  The IC697CPU772 is a 12 MHz, Expandable, Floating Point Central Processing Unit from the GE Fanuc 90-70 Series.
  • Question:  What will I need to test my IC697CPU772?  Answer:  You will need your IC697CPU772, a slot rack, and a power supply.
  • Question:  If the top LED is not on or is blinking when I test my processor- What does that mean?  Answer:  It means you definitely have something wrong with your processor.
  • Question:  How do I test the port that is on IC697CPU772?  Answer:  Go into Proficy Machine Edition, clear the controller fault table and/or the I/O fault table- nothing else. Then, click download and run. You want to download hardware, configuration, and logic. The only thing you are trying to do is get the processor into run mode.
  • Question:  What does each LED indicate?  Answer:  The top LED is the OK LED, the middle LED is the run enabled LED, and the bottom LED is the I/O enabled LED.
  • Question:  What else should I test on IC697CPU772?  Answer:  You should test the toggle switch (that is under the LEDs). This toggle switch turns off the LEDs and you should simply make sure it works by flipping it on and off.
  • Question:  What if I think there is a problem with my processor?  Answer:  You should leave it in run mode over night or over a weekend to check and see if it will stay in run mode.
