Product Description

IC697CPM790 is a GE FANUC manufactured 64 MHz CPU with calculation capability using a 32-bit floating point and microprocessor 80486DX2
. This CPU utilizes single-slot programming software which works with Windows or MS-DOS to perform configuration and programming.

IC697CPM790 includes
up to 12K discrete inputs and outputs (mix- simplex mode only). It has flash memory dedicated for OS firmware, allowing firmware updating through the connection between PC and module's serial port. The user controls module operation with programming software or via operation mode using the RUN/STOP three-position switch. A memory protection key or software password locks the configuration and program data.

IC697CPM790 has four green LEDs that indicate the status of the CPU. Fan assemblies are required for air cooling. The user can connect Bus transmitter module IC697BEM713 to the programmer for the parallel interface. A Type D connector with 15 pins connects the serial port, which is RS-485 compatible. During actual operation and power-up, the CPU verifies rack configuration while its alarm function reports any deviations in programmed and/or actual configuration. IC697CPM790 has a lithium battery that maintains calendar clock operation, data memory, and program memory.

It is important to note that module IC697CPM790 must be used alongside a Standalone C program, which provides Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) operating and autotest routines. It will not operate unless this program is included in the loaded application program.

Supported option modules are as follows: IC697 LAN Interface modules, Programmable Coprocessor, Alphanumeric Display Coprocessor, Bus Controller for IC660/661 I/O products, communications modules, I/O Link Interface, and the IC697 family of discrete and analog I/O modules.

Technical Specifications

The catalog number IC697CPM790 is an order reference for a GE Fanuc  Series 90-70 CPU which operates at 64 megahertz. This central processing unit requires a single slot in the backplane of the PLC that it is installed in and it has a battery-backed memory with a capacity of 1 Megabyte. The unit has 12K discrete inputs and outputs along with a single RS422/485 port which can be used to make connections to other machines. The nominal current rating of the 5 Volts bus is 3.3 Amps. The IC697CPM790 CPU has an operating temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius (32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit) when forced air is required to cool the CPU down, and it has a temperature rating of 0 to 40 degrees Celsius (32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit) without forced air.

The IC697CPM790 CPU has a time-of-day clock accuracy rating of 3.5 seconds per day (maximum) and an elapsed time clock (internal timing) accuracy of .01% (maximum). The CPU system provides support for the VME standard C.1 and it can be used with both the Windows and MS-DOS operating systems. The unit comes with adequate software for programming and configuration and it is equipped with a run-stop switch with 3 positions for different operation modes. The IC697CPM790 unit has a powerful fan in order to provide proper air cooling and it comes with 4 green LED indicators for status updates. The IC697CPM790 unit is designed for use with the standalone C program which provides features for TMR operation and the routines to perform automatic tests. The IC697CPM790 CPU uses flash memory in order to store firmware information and the unit has 512 KB of memory for application programs and data.

Customer Questions and Answers

  • Question:  What is an IC697CPM790?  Answer:  The IC697CPM790 is a 64 MHz, 32-Bit, Floating Point Central Processing Unit from the GE Fanuc 90-70 Series.  This module must be used in conjunction with a Standalone C program which provides Triple Modular Redundacy (TMR) operating and autotest routines.
  • Question:  If I power up my IC697CPM790 and the OK LED light is not on or is blinking- What does that mean? Answer:  It means you have a problem with your processor and won't be able to test it.
  • Question:  What steps should I take to test my processor?  Answer:  In Proficy Machine Edition, you should click the lightning bolt to connect and then, using the hand-print, go into online mode. Next, on the top menu bar, click "Target" and go to "Online Commands". In that window, clear the Controller and I/O Fault Table. After, select "Download and Run". When it asks you what you want to build, click "Hardware Configuration and Logic".
  • Question:  What is the ultimate goal of this test?  Answer:  The ultimate goal is to get your processor into run mode.
  • Question:  What else should I test on my IC697CPM790?  Answer:  You should test the toggle switch and make sure it works. You should also make sure the Memory Protection switch works (an LED will light up to let you know this feature is working).
  • Question:  What should I do if my IC697CPM790 is giving me problems?  Answer:   You should leave your IC697CPM790 in run mode, overnight or over a weekend, and check to see if it stays in run-mode. If it stays in run-mode, everything should be good-to-go.
  • Question:  What should I do if my IC697CPM790 won't stay in run mode?  Answer:  Your IC697CPM790 may need to be repaired
