Product Description

IC697BEM742 is FIP Bus Controller (FBC)
and a member of the IC697 range designed by GE Fanuc. IC697BEM742 interfaces the FIP input output serial bus to IC697. A standard IC697 rack is available in two versions catalogued as IC697BEM742 and IC697BEM744, respectively. Both versions have 2M of RAM and 2M of flash memory. The data rate for IC697BEM742 is 1 Mbit/second.
Highlighted features of the IC697BEM742 include four FIP bus controllers per PLC system, two FIP bus channels responsible for redundant bus capability, an RS-485 serial port that attaches to a PC for in-system firmware upgrades, and a pushbutton that aids in resetting and enabling the bus controller to accept upgrades.

The IC697BEM742 FBC is also used to store configuration data to remote devices and to report faults. Software configuration is aided by a Windows programming software configuration function that runs on either Windows 95 or Windows NT. FIP devices on the bus automatically report errors or any other form of predefined condition to the PLC. The IC697BEM742 stores any diagnostic messages it receives.  Distress messages are then automatically read by the IC697 CPU. Faults are eventually displayed in the fault table using widows programming software and cleared from the programmer.  It is possible to install the IC697BEM742 FBC in any I/O slot in the CPU rack of the IC697 PLC System. Installation should not, however, be attempted without referring to the relevant manual and bus controller user guide.
