The GE Fanuc IC697BEM735 Remote I/O Scanner is a solid-state, microprocessor-based industrial automation computer whose main role is to monitor the status of the inputs and outputs connected to a GE Fanuc Programmable Logic Controller or PLC from the IC697 line. It operates using a DC voltage level of 5 Volts DC, which can be obtained through the GE Fanuc Programmable Logic Controller IC697 rack or backplane, with a rated backplane current of 1.3 Amps. The GE Fanuc IC697BEM735 Remote I/O Scanner is easy to configure by the engineering or maintenance crews either through an GE IC66 Genius Handheld Monitor or through the GE MS-DOS Software Configurator Function. Up to 1024 Discrete I/O or 64 Analog I/O can be monitored and controlled using a single scanner, and if the application process contains more tasks than these, these Remote I/O scanners are stackable according to the user’s PLC backplane slot availability.

The GE Fanuc IC697BEM735 Remote I/O Scanner is easy to mount and deploy in any standard industrial application process just by inserting it into a compatible connection slot in a GE IC697 rack. The wiring terminations are made with the corresponding screws that are located on the lower front side of the scanner. The specifications on the type of wiring that needs to be used can be found in the user manual that is shipped by the manufacturer. The options for the programming and communication connection interfaces include a 9-pin handheld connector and an RS-422/485 serial port. When properly installed inside a protected enclosure that receives appropriate maintenance at regular intervals, the GE Fanuc IC697BEM735 Remote I/O Scanner is designed to endure all the conditions present in most types of industrial environments.

Technical Information

The IC697BEM735 scanner is an IC697 remote I/O scanner. It is an intelligent scanner module manufactured by GE Fanuc. It is used inside a remote IC697 rack and it is used to communicate with IC697 modules by using a bus device. It is used in the PLC system. The scanner is equipped with a “MODULE OK” LED, an “I/O Enabled” LED, and a “Bus B Active” LED on the front side. For communication, the scanner is equipped with a 15-pin RS 422/485 compatible serial port and a single 9-pin handheld monitor port that can be used to connect with a programmer or a monitoring device. The IC697BEM735 scanner runs with 0.8 Amps of current from the 5 Volts bus. The bus of the scanner is daisy-chained with twisted pair cables. The bus termination rate of the scanner ranges between 75 and 150 ohms.

The IC697BEM735 scanner module comes with a configurable baud rate of 153.6, 76.8, or 38.4 kBaud. The scanner can support up to 32 devices at a time. The IC697BEM735 scanner module can be located up to 2275 meters away from the controller It supports both discrete and analog I/O modules. This remote I/O scanner can be easily programmed by using the proper programming software. The scanner consists of a single circuit board with a hinged door as a faceplate. The bus terminals are located on the bottom part of the scanner along with the serial port. The rack should be powered during the installation of the remote I/O scanner. The module board should be aligned on the backplane of the rack and it should be slid towards the connector until it is seated on the connector.
