The GE Fanuc IC697BEM734 Series 90-70 Single-Channel I/O Bus Controller for the Series One, Series Six, and Series 90-70 Bus systems. This Bus controller is installed in a single slot of the Series 90-70 PLC rack. Like all Series 90-70 Bus controllers, the IC697BEM734 Bus Controller can be configured with the MS-DOS-based configuration software configurator function, provide an intuitive programming environment, and allow the operators to specify and set baud rates and serial bus addresses. By default, the IC697BEM734 Bus Controller is set to 153.6 kbaud as the standard baud rate and the default serial bus address is set to 31, but the users can choose specific baud rates and serial bus address via the configuration software.
The IC697BEM734 Bus Controller allows data messages known as Datagrams to be transferred from device to device or broadcasted to all the connected devices on the bus via the ladder logic command. When used with the Series One or Series Six PLC system, it asynchronously scans I/O blocks and automatically transfers the I/O data to the CPU once after every iterated backplane scan. After each completed scan, the IC697BEM734 Bus Controller receives any faults data, specifies diagnostic references for the CPU upon each completed scan, and transfers the ladder logic commands initiated by the CPU to all the devices on the bus. The IC697BEM734 Bus Controller supports global communication, direct PLC CPU communication service requests, and peer-to-peer data transfers on the IC666 Bus. The IC697BEM734 Bus Controller is rated 5 Volts DC and it has a maximum backplane current of 1.3 Amps. It has 3 front-side LEDs that indicate bus controller operation and bus communication statuses.
The IC697BEM734 I/O bus controller module belongs to GE Fanuc Series 90-70 product line. It supports the direct communication with the CPU and global communication as well. Some of the features of the module include 30 drops per channel, I/O diagnostic facilities, a hand-held monitor port, IC66 LAN communication, and DOS or Windows programming software compatibility. The IC697BEM734 I/O bus controller module offers a communication node for communication with multiple devices such as bus controllers, PCIMs, and IC666 devices. It has 3 status indicator LEDs that are the “Module OK,” “Channel1 OK,” and “Not Used” LEDs. It transfers data between other devices by passing a token. It does not have a specific baud rate or serial bus address for configuration and it uses the default baud rates of the configurator software.
The IC697BEM734 bus controller module has 5 Volts of operating voltage, and 1.3 Amps of backplane current. The operation of the bus controller module includes receiving inputs from I/O block, receiving faults to set the diagnostic status for the CPU, updating the outputs of the I/O, and sending the commands that are received to the CPU. This operation or bus scan does not depend on the CPU sweep. It is recommended to use shielded, twisted-pair cables for the field terminal connections of the bus controller module. It provides a port for connecting a hand-held monitor that can be used for monitoring the bus status. It also offers easy installation and removal processes. Before installation, make sure to confirm that the rack power is off. The communication facilities provided by the IC697BEM734 bus controller module include transmitting global data between CPUs, transferring specified data areas between devices, responding to commands of the ladder logic by transmitting a datagram, and IC66 LAN communication.
