GE Fanuc Series 90-70
The GE Fanuc IC697ADC701 Alphanumeric Display Coprocessor (ADC) is an additional processor that is used to enhance a Series 90-70 PLC CPU’s processing capabilities. The GE Fanuc IC697ADC701 Alphanumeric Display Coprocessor specifically allows the Series 90-70 PLC to report alarms and other important information for the operators by using a human-machine interface such as a GE Fanuc Operator Interface Terminal (OIT) or a simpler version known as a Mini OIT. This coprocessor is installed directly by insertion into any available slot in the Series 90-70 PLC backplane, which also provides the power and communication interfaces and circuitry for the coprocessor. It is the final user's responsibility to ensure that electrical power is disconnected before installing the alphanumeric display coprocessor, in order to avoid any unexpected operation, failures, or hazardous situations.
The GE Fanuc IC697ADC701 Alphanumeric Display Coprocessor (ADC) must be installed in a protective enclosure and it has an ambient operating temperature range between -25 and +70 degrees Celsius (-13 to 158 degrees Fahrenheit). The free circulation of air and the required spacing around the drive that is specified in the mounting instructions should be respected at all times in order to extend the operating lifetime of the device. The GE Fanuc IC697ADC701 Alphanumeric Display Coprocessor has a very low environmental protection rating because of its open-style construction, and therefore, it is the final user's responsibility to provide environmental protection for it by means of an appropriate enclosure which can keep the device properly ventilated, dry, and within the required humidity and temperature parameters.
The IC697ADC701 module is a coprocessor module manufactured by GE Fanuc. It comes with a single slot architecture and it runs with system software that supports an alphanumeric display. It is powered with a 12 Mhz 80C186 microprocessor that offers high-performance data processing. The front part of the processor module is equipped with LED indicators along with a reset button. The 3 status LEDs indicate the running status and the activity at Port 1 and Port 2 of the module. Port 1 is connected to the RS-232 COM port of a host computer for communication and it has a baud rate of 19.2 kBaud. Port 2 has a baud rate of 19.2 kBaud and it is connected to the interface with OIT and other devices like keyboards and screen output devices. The processor can be programmed by using the MS DOS software. The processor offers 15 user-configured functions that can be set for different operations. The processor can be connected to a printer by using the serial port.
The GE Fanuc IC697ADC701 module has been programmed to work with alphanumeric functions. It is made to be used with the IC697 PLC system. A push button is present in the module that is used to start the module up. The rack power should be fully disconnected during the installation of the module. The battery should be connected to either side of the module. The processor has a default setting of 19,200 bps. The IC697ADC701 module is equipped with a lithium ion battery for powering different components of the processor module. It has a current rating of 1 Amp from the 5 Volts bus. The battery in the IC697ADC701 module has a lifespan of 10 years when it is used at an ambient temperature of 20 degrees Celsius.
