Product Description

The IC687RCM711 is a Redundancy Communications Module that provides a pathway for a synchronizing message from the active to the backup unit. This is then used as a way to synchronize the dual CPUs in a FIP single rack redundancy system. This also allows for a path for transferred shared I/O data between the two units. The actual physical connection between the units for a FIP single rack redundancy system can contain up to three feet of total interconnecting cable. Compatible CPUs include IC697CFR782 and IC697CFR28.

The IC687RCM711 Redundancy Communications Module occupies a single slot in the rack and contains two connectors. The upper connector is used to attach the bus transmitter module while the lower connector is unused for this purpose. There are five green LEDs that show status indication of the health of the RCM module. These also monitor the control status for the Hot Standby CPU Redundancy system.

This module also offers a pushbutton that allows the user to manually switch controls from active to the backup unit. This is only effective if the backup unit is ready for use. This allows the user to maintain maintenance of the formerly active unit while the system is still online. After switching roles, a new switch cannot be completed for a minimum of 10 seconds. This RCM must be configured into the FIP redundancy system with either Windows programming or MS-DOS software. This unit requires a 5V Bus with an effective data rate of 500 Kbytes per second.
