The IC693CPU370 is a high performance Central Processing Unit. This unit is the "brains" of the PLC and is where most of the calculations take place. The GE Fanuc IC693CPU370 has CPU firmware stored in flash memory. This CPU unit is for entry-level applications that have low I/O counts. As the CPU is embedded into the backplane, all the slots are available for either input or output devices.
The model 370 is compatible with a range of advanced modules. This includes control, Ethernet and various bus modules. The mid-range models are modular and available in different memory sizes. The range also has different performance capabilities and increased functionality. For example, the units have features like override, a battery-backed clock and support for a Programmable Coprocessor.
High-performance CPU modules have a design that is based on the latest 386EX processor. This allows for fast computation and high throughput. These units are able to handle up to 4,096 I/O points and they start at 32K of memory. Furthermore, they are programmable in a number of standard languages.
