Product Description

The IC693CPU311 module is a 5-slot rack with an embedded CPU in base manufactured by GE Fanuc. It’s a 16-bit system belonging to the 90-30 series of PLCs with a processor speed of 10 MHz and a registry memory of 1 kilobyte. It comes with 160 Input / Output points with no Floating-point math.  Embedded CPUs have the following properties: The CPU type cannot be changed as it is soldered onto the backplane board in the baseplate. Embedded CPUs do not have a time-of-day clock. Since they lack expansion connectors like modular baseplates do, they do not support expansion or remote racks. If power supply is removed or battery disconnected, the CPU has “super” capacitors that store sufficient charge to maintain memory circuits for a while.

It uses a IC693PWR330 high capacity power supply which is connected to an AS693232 SNP serial cable. The IC693PWR330 power supply has a load capacity of 30 Watts output and delivers 120/240 VAC input or 125 VDC outputTo test the IC693CPU311, power it on and check for the ‘OK’ light from the LED indicator located at the top of the power supply. If the ‘OK’ indicator fails to come ON, you should know that there’s a problem with the module’s CPU.

The GE Fanuc IC693CPU311 Series 90-30 CPU Baseplate Module is a standard CPU baseplate module that is designed for the GE Series 90-30 PLC system. The IC693CPU311 CPU Baseplate Module belongs to the GE Series 90-30 mid-range CPU family and it is designed for entry-level applications with low I/O counts. The IC693CPU311 CPU Baseplate Module is basically a 5-slot baseplate with a CPU module embedded in the backplane, which makes all 5 slots available for I/O use. The IC693CPU311 CPU Baseplate Module is a 16-bit system built around a space-saving and modular blueprint for high-performance operation within budget. The IC693CPU311 CPU Baseplate Module comes with 10 Megahertz processor and 1 KB of registry memory and 6 KB of user-logic memory. The IC693CPU311 CPU Baseplate Module’s embedded CPU supports up to 160 discrete I/O points with non-floating point math support, and it also supports up to 64 analog inputs and 32 analog output connections.

The IC693CPU311 CPU Baseplate Module’s embedded CPU is not field-replaceable because it is completely soldered onto the backplane, and as such, it does not support expansion or remote rack connection. The IC693CPU311 CPU Baseplate Module does not come with a built-in battery, but it has built-in “supercapacitors” that store sufficient charge to run memory circuits for a brief amount of time. It supports ladder logic and SFC programming, and it also supports Boolean operation. The IC693CPU311 CPU Baseplate Module needs a high-capacity power supply known as the IC693PWR330 power supply which supplies 30 Watts of output power capacity and 120/240 Volts AC input power capacity and a backplane current rating of 410 milliamps at 5 Volts DC. The IC693CPU311 CPU Baseplate Module comes with a single RS-485 serial port that connects to the power supply. It also has a power LED that shows the “on” or “off” state of the module.

Incompatibility of Pre-Version 8.00 Firmware S90-30 CPUs with Analog Modules

Description

S90-30 CPUs with firmware versions earlier than v8.00 will not support newer versions of S90-30 Analog modules with the following part numbers:

IC693ALG222 revision -FA and newer
IC693ALG223 revision -EA and newer
IC693ALG392 revision -BD and newer
IC693ALG442 revision -DA and newer

Resolution

S90-30 CPU models IC693CPU311, CPU313, CPU323, CPU331 and CPU341 can be upgraded to firmware level v8.4 by purchasing an upgrade PROM from your local distributor.

S90-30 CPU models IC693CPU350 through CPU374 can be upgraded to the latest version firmware by downloading the proper firmware upgrade file from our Support site.

S90-30 CPU models IC693CPU321 and IC693CPU340 cannot be upgraded to v8.0. These two CPUs will not support the analog modules specified above.

90-30 CPUs with Time of Day Clock

Description

90-30 CPUs with Time of Day Clock

Resolution

As per GFK-0467M, not all 90-30 CPU's have a Time of Day Clock. The models that do not have this feature are the Embedded CPU's (Model 311 (IC693CPU311), Model 313(IC693CPU313), and Model 323 (IC693CPU323)).

Customer Questions and Answers

  • Question: What is an IC693CPU311?  Answer: The IC693CPU311 is a 5 slot rack with an embedded Central Processing Unit (from the GE Fanuc Series 90-30). This unit is the "brains" of the PLC and is where most of the calculations take place.
  • Question: What's the first thing you should do when testing your IC693CPU311?  Answer: When you power the IC693CPU311 up, you should be checking for an OK light.
  • Question: What if I do not have an OK light after I have powered it up?  Answer: If you don't have an OK light, then you won't be able to follow through with the test. The lack of an OK light indicates, right from the start, there is something wrong with your IC693CPU311.
  • Question: What is this initial test showing?  Answer: You're basically turning on the configuration and logic in this processor in order to set it to run mode. You want to see that this is a good working processor.
  • Question: With what software should I test my IC693CPU311? Answer: You can test your IC693CPU311 with Proficy Machine Edition.
  • Question: What will I need to test my IC693CPU311? Answer: All you will need is your IC693CPU311 and a power supply.
  • Question: If I think there is a problem with my processor, what should I do?  Answer: You should, first, make sure the RUN light comes on and then let the processor run overnight (or even 2-3 days). This is to check that it's able to sustain itself in run mode. (You want to make sure it doesn't fail or fall out of run mode for any reason.) If it does fail or fall out of run mode, then you can try reading the faults or errors through the Proficy Machine Edition software. It may give you enough information to help you fix the problem.
  • Question: If I can't figure out how to fix my IC693CPU311, what is my next step?  Answer: PDF Supply can repair your IC693CPU311 for you.
