Product Description

The IC698CRE040 PASystems RX7i is a CPU programmed and configured to perform control in real time of machines, processes, and material handling sytems. I/O communication and smart option module communication occurs over a rack-mounted backplane via VME64 Standard format. An embedded Ethernet port (or serial port) allows the CPU to communicate with the programmer and HMI devices.

This CPU is equipped with an 1800MHz Pentium-M microprocessor, 64 MB of battery-packed user memory, and 64 MB of non-volatile user flash for various types of user memory. It also comes with hot standby (HSB) redundancy. It is important to note that the latter requires a Redundancy CPU and Redundancy Memory Xchange module (IC698RMX016) configured as a redundancy link in each unit. The unit is also bulk memory accessible by way of reference table %W.

The IC698CRE040 supports discrete and analog I/O for Series 90-70 as well as communications and other modules, including VME. Note: A full list is available in the unit’s Installation Manual.

Web data monitoring is possible with a combined total of 16 web server and FTP connections. The unit offers bit-in-word referencing and a calendar clock, which is battery-backed. Firmware upgrades for the CPU/module can be initiated using either the RS-232 or RS-485 serial ports. The RS-232 Ethernet port is for station management.

Additionally, the IC698CRE040 is equipped with an embedded Ethernet interface, which provides support for SRTP Channels, Modbus/TCP Server, and Modbus/TCP Client. Two full duplex ports provide auto-negotiated network speed and crossover detection. The user-configurable Redundant IP allows EGD configuration exchange production.

The CPU’s power requirements are +5 VDC: 6.8 Amps nominal / +12 VDC: 0.003 Amps nominal / -12 VDC: 0.003 Amps nominal.

Customer Questions and Answers

  • Question:  What is an IC698CRE040?  Answer:  The IC698CRE040 is a 1.8 GHz Central Processing Unit with Hot Stand-by Redundancy from the GE Fanuc RX7i Series with an Intel Pentium-M microprocessor.
  • Question:  What does Hot Standby CPU Redundancy in an IC698CRE040 do?  Answer:   Hot Standy CPU Redundancy allows a critical application or process to continue operating if a failure occurs in any single component.
  • Question:  How many CPUs are required?  Answer:  A Hot Standy system uses two CPUs; and active unit that actively controls the process, and a backuo unit that is synchronized with the active unit and can take over the process if it becomes necessary.
  • Question:  How does IC698CRE040 communicate with I/O and Intelligent Option modules?  Answer:  The CPU communicates over a rack-mounted backplane using the VME64 Standard format.
  • Question:  What else is required wtih the IC698CRE040 to accomplish redundancy?  Answer:  A Redundacy Memory Xchange module (IC698RMX016) configured as a redundancy link in each unit.
  • Question: How can I avoid RAM memory loss?  Answer:  Routine maintenance procedures should include scheduled replacement of the CPU's IC698ACC701 lithium battery pack.  The battery maintains program and data memory and operates the calendar clock when the power is removed.
  • Question:  If I don't have any light on or the CPU is not functioning correctly - What does that mean?  Answer:  It means there is something wrong with your processor and it will need repair or maybe even replacement.
