The IC694MDL645 is a 16-Point, 24 Volt DC, Positive/Negative Logic, Input module of the GE Fanuc RX3i Series. This module provides 16 input points in 1 group with a common power input terminal.  It has discrete input and no backplane restrictions. This input module can be wired for either positive logic or negative logic. There are 16 LEDs to indicate the ON/OFF status of the respective points.

This module is compatible with many different input devices and field devices. Switches, buttons and BCD thumbwheels are examples of external input devices that are compatible with this component. The IC694MDL645 provides an interface between these devices and the PLC, allowing them to cooperate.  The I/O module can also provide an interface between the PLC and external output modules. Such examples include interposing relays, contactors and indicator lamps. GE Fanuc has a wide range of I/O modules such as this one, which support various voltage ranges and types. Whatever the isolation or capacity you may need, users can find the right module to work with their application.  

IC694MDL645 is a low-voltage module, as denoted by the blue bands on the label. Users can install it in any slot of the RX3i system. When the RX3i is under power, users can insert the module into or remove it from the Universal backplane of the system. However, it must be noted that when doing this, the field side terminal block should be removed from the module.

The GE Fanuc IC694MDL645 input module is a member of the RX3i PACSystems module series. This module is rated for a nominal voltage of 24 Volts DC and it has 16 inputs that are all in 1 group. Its operating input voltage range is from 0 to 30 Volts DC. The IC694MDL645 input module is designed to be a low-voltage RX3i PACSystems module, and it is marked as a low-voltage module with the blue label that it comes with. ME Power Supply Load Tab and IC694MDL645

Description

When a certain number of IC694MDL654 input modules are added to any rack in a 90-30 target or to an Expansion Rack in an RX3i target, the Power Supply Load Tab in Machine Edition HWC marks the Power Supply overloaded.

Resolution

Input power for the IC694MDL654 may be supplied from the module’s 24V Out terminal, or from an external power source. Only when using the modules 24V Out terminal, power is supplied from the backplane’s 24V Isolated power rail.

When adding the module to a rack, ME assumes module inputs are powered from the module’s 24V Out, and adds 0.125A to the current consumption on the backplane’s 24V Isolated rail. This may quickly lead to an overload indication like shown on the picture below.

If input power is supplied from an external source, users may eventually disregard the overload indication:

For each IC694MDL645 subtract 0.125A from the indicated current on the 24V Isolated rail. Then (re)calculate all wattage(s). The maximum supplied on the 24V Isolated rail is 20Watts.

If the total power consumption of the system from all three voltage rails (5V, 24V Relay and 24V Isolated) is less than 30Watts, the overload indication in ME may be disregarded.
