Technical Information

The GE Fanuc ST-5211 module is a serial interface or RS-232 communication module from the PACSystems RSTi series of devices from the GE Intelligent Platforms product line. It has a low signal voltage level between -18 Volts and -3 Volts and a high signal voltage level between +3 Volts and +18 Volts. The transfer channels include the full-duplex, TxD, and RxD channels which have a transfer rate ranging from 300 to 115,200 bytes. It has a TxD buffer of 1024 bytes and an RxD buffer of 256 bytes. The serial interface module has a data bit with 7-bit and 8-bit options, a parity bit comprising “none,” “odd and even,” and “stop” bits that have 1-bit and 2-bit options. The ST-5211 serial interface module has an output image size of 6 bytes and an input image size of 6 bytes.

The ST-5211 serial interface module has a power dissipation rating of 95 milliamps at 5 Volts DC. This module has Clear to Send (CTS) and Request to Send (RTS) flow control lines that enable the transmitter and receiver to alert one another about their current state. The RTS line causes an interrupt on the receiver with a request to send data, and the CTS line confirms if the receiver is in a position to receive the data. These 2 lines ensure a consistent data connection between the receiver and the transmitter. The ST-5211 serial interface module has an operating temperature range between -20 and 55 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity ranging from 5% to 95%, non-condensing. It has a maximum operating altitude of 2000 meters, an operating shock rating of 30 g, and a vibration rating of 2 g at 10 to 500 kilohertz.
