Technical Information

The GE Fanuc IC630CCM390 RS-232/RS-422 Converter Module is an RS-232 to RS-422 converter adapter module for the GE Series Three data communication system. This module comes in a mini converter kit consisting of an RS-422 (SNP) to RS-232 converter module, a 2-meter cable, and a 9-pin to 25-pin converter plug assembly. The IC630CCM390 Converter Module is compatible with the Series One, Series One Junior, Series One Plus, Series Three, and Series Six PLC data communication systems. The IC630CCM390 Converter Module is used in a point-to-point configuration or in a multi-drop configuration where the host device is configured as a master device, and every other device, including other programmable controllers in the control system, are configured as slave devices. The module also supports modem connections which can only be achieved if an RTS device is jumpered to a CTS device. A standard multi-drop configuration consists of a connection from the IC630CCM390 converter RS-422 port to the SNP port of the first slave PLC.

 

The IC630CCM390 Converter Module has a 15-pin SNP port that connects directly into a PLC serial port, and the 9-pin RS-232 port on the plug assembly is used for connecting to RS-232-compatible field devices. The IC630CCM390 Converter Module has a unique design where the RS-232 to RS-422 converter is completely integrated into the 2-meter serial extension cable and the converter plug converts the 9-pin RS-232 signal to the 25-pin serial port on an IBM PC-XT or IC647 industrial computer or on a personal computer. The electrical specifications for this converter module includes a 5 Volts DC power requirement (this power is provided by the PLC rack), 100 milliamps of maximum backplane current draw, and 38.4 Kilo-Baud of maximum baud rate.
