Technical Information

The IC655MEM503 Memory Cartridge is a 16K CPU RAM manufactured by GE Fanuc to use with the GE Series Five modules. It is available with a battery for backup. The IC655MEM503 Memory Cartridge has a buffer area that stores the source code of a program. The program name, timestamp, and date stamp are also stored with the user program inside the memory cartridge. This compact, plug-in cartridge is battery-backed with a lithium battery for maintaining the memory when the power is interrupted. The memory drains a small amount of power from the battery while maintaining the memory for 2 to 5 years. It ensures efficient system operation by storing the system parameters, configuration parameters of other devices, and the operating system.        

 

The IC655MEM503 Memory Cartridge comes with a memory protect jumper which is configured to the “write unprotect” position by default. If the cartridge is write-protected, the user program cannot be copied to the CPU. It offers high execution rates with its RAM. The CPU copies some of the configuration data from the EEPROM to the RAM when the module is powered up. Before removing the IC655MEM503 Memory Cartridge, make sure that the CPU is in the “STOP” mode. It can be easily removed from the slot by grasping the “PULL” tab which is on the top of the plastic strip and pulling it out of the slot. It is advised to remove the cartridge without the power on. Since the cartridge might have excess static electricity in them, it should be handled carefully after removing it from the CPU to avoid damages. The backup battery which is mounted on the circuit board should be removed very carefully without damaging the circuit board.
