Technical Information

The IC655MEM501 Memory Cartridge is a GE Fanuc 4K/24K RAM cartridge with battery backup. This memory module belongs to the GE Series Five family of products. It ensures high application execution rates. The Logicmaster 5 software is used to read the data and user programs that are stored inside the cartridge. The IC655MEM501 Memory Cartridge comes as a compact plug-in cartridge with all the necessary functions required for system operation. It is the most common type of memory used in PLCs. This RAM cartridge is a fast, low power memory that can be read and written easily. It consists of a lithium battery that is mounted inside the memory cartridge to maintain the content during a power failure.

 

The IC655MEM501 Memory Cartridge has a buffer area for storing the source code of a user program. By default, the memory protect jumper is set to the “write unprotected” position. If the memory cartridge is write-protected, the user program cannot be stored in the CPU. It is advised to put the CPU in the “STOP” mode before removing the memory cartridge. The users must grasp the “PULL” label on the top of the plastic strip firmly and the module must be firmly pulled out of the slot to remove the cartridge correctly. Make sure that the power is switched off before installing or removing the cartridge. The IC655MEM501 Memory Cartridge must be handled with care since static electricity can build up and damage the memory inside the cartridge. The memory content also needs to be saved before replacing the memory cartridge battery.
