The GE Fanuc IC670ALG621 module is an RTD analog input module, and it is manufactured as a member of the GE Fanuc Field Control product family. This RTD input module receives 4 inputs from 3-wire or 4-wire RTDs and then converts the input-level value to a digital value. Its input spans allow for a wide range of RTD types. There is a digital/analog converter that can read the voltage value generated from every single input. It converts a differential-measurement to a binary-value with 15 bits+ sign, as interpreted by the microprocessor of the block. The microprocessor is designed to set the necessary gain for the analog/digital converter for every single input. This gain will depend on the type of RTD that is configured for that input.
The operation of the GE Fanuc Field Control IC670ALG621 RTD analog input module involves a microprocessor that selects inputs through a solid-state and optically-coupled multiplexer. Each input has 3 measurements, including the field wire drop, RTD resistance with field wire drop, and the excitation current measurements. These 3 measurements enable the IC670ALG621 RTD analog input module to calculate the RTD resistance. There is also a AC/DC converter circuit that helps to isolate the field side from the logic circuits. This module is designed to perform the analog/digital calibration when it is powered on automatically. The automatic calibration repeats after every minute, thus compensating for the changes that may arise due to the ambient temperature. The IC670ALG621 module has a RAM that stores its calibration constants for each gain. Various RTD types rated 0 to 3276.7 Ohms are connected to this module to enable the operators to integrate the essential temperature measurements into the control platform.
