The GE Fanuc EP-5311 module is an SSI encoder interface module. It is a special functions module for SSI encoders. The EP-5311 SSI encoder interface module can operate as a master module or a listening module.
The EP-5311 module is an SSI encoder interface module. It has been manufactured by GE Fanuc as a special functions module. The EP-5311 SSI encoder interface module is used to read the differential signals known as RS422 signals from an industrial SSI encoder. It can be connected directly to the SSI encoder that is providing the clock as a master device. The EP-5311 SSI encoder interface module can also be used to synchronize 2 SSI encoders in a system. To synchronize the 2 encoders, the EP-5311 SSI encoder interface module is installed between one of the encoders and the interface module on the encoder which is acting as the master module. The interface module that is being used for synchronization must be programmed to operate in the listening mode to perform the synchronization.
The GE Fanuc EP-5311 SSI encoder interface module can support data transfer rates between 125 kHz and 2 Mhz, and the data formats that it supports are the binary data format and the Gray-Code data format. This interface module has 2 supply outputs. The sensors that are connected to the EP-5311 SSI encoder interface module through these 2 outputs can be rated at 5 Volts DC or 24 Volts DC. Both of the supply outputs are protected against overcurrent, but the outputs should never be used simultaneously. The encoder that the EP-5311 SSI encoder interface module is being used with needs to be connected with shielded wire. Its supply voltage rating is 20.4 to 28.8 Volts and its current consumption rating is 8 milliamps from the system current path and 25 milliamps plus the sensor supply current from the input current path.
