The Digital Outputs are digital output modules that are designed and manufactured by GE Fanuc to be used with digital input modules in a PLC or programmable logic controller. The Digital Outputs and the digital inputs are connected to the PLC’s Fieldbus network adapter and they communicate all of their messages and data through the network adapter. The Digital Outputs can have 2, 4, 8, or 16 channels depending on how much data they need to handle. They are active modules. Some of them support positive logic only while others support both positive and negative logic. The Digital Outputs can have 1-wire, 2-wire, 3-wire, or 4-wire connections. When the Digital Outputs’ inductive loads are switched off, this causes power to be fed back through the channels. This feedback can be eliminated with an external freewheeling protection device.

The GE Fanuc Digital Outputs can control up to 16 discrete outputs at a time if each of these outputs have the right current ratings. The supported current ratings for different Digital Outputs include 0.5 Amps and 2 Amps. Each channel on the Digital Outputs has an LED status indicator and the outputs are all supplied with power from the system’s output current path. The LED status indicators will glow red to alert the users of the Digital Outputs to different situations, including errors in the supply voltage, communication errors in the system bus, new diagnostics messages, and overload systems in at least one of the channels. These situations should be attended to as quickly as possible to prevent damage to the Digital Outputs.
