The GE Fanuc EP-8310 Empty Slot Module is a DIN Rail-mounted slot module made for the modular RSTi-EP system. The RSTi-EP system offers common Fieldbus connectivity that conforms to IEC 61131-2 standard, and every station connected to the system is assigned a unique address according to the Fieldbus structure. The RSTi-EP family of I/O modules are made to be independent of the Fieldbus, and their configuration and number can be determined only by the maximum amount of data transmitted by the Fieldbus, in particular by the configuration, parameter, or process data for the module types that are provided. The EP-8310 Empty Slot Module is supplied as a single accessory package or it can be integrated as a reserve module in a station. It is designed to bridge contacts in the basic 1:1 module configuration, otherwise, it is redundant and has no function.
The EP-8310 Empty Slot Module is designed without any Fieldbus capability. It is passive in any system configuration and therefore it is not considered during the system configuration. In the GE RSTi-EP system, there is space for 3 passive modules (a power-feed module, potential distribution module, and empty slot module) and they can be installed in succession. However, the next module after them must be an active one. The EP-8310 Empty Slot Module, like every RSTi-EP module, comes with a spring-style connector terminal block for easy and simplified field wiring. It supports a single-wired or multi-wired connection with a cross-sectional dimension of 0.14 to 1.5 millimeters square (16 to 26 AWG). The EP-8310 Empty Slot Module has an extended operating temperature range of -20 to 60 degrees Celsius and a storage temperature range between -40 and 85 degrees Celsius. The EP-8310 Empty Slot Module has an IP 20 ingress protection rating, and it weighs approximately 72 grams.
