The DVT-SLP is a SmartLink product from Cognex. The SmartLink works with DVT vision sensors to expand their information-sharing capabilities. The software and hardware of this product provide the user with a monitoring system that is both sophisticated and easy-to-manage. Users have two options for viewing the user interface. One method is to use the software development interface to display it on a PC or laptop. The alternative is to utilize the SmartLink hardware to display the interface on a video monitor.

As of v.1.2.4, SmartLink has some new updates that improve the user experience. Firstly, it has touch-screen monitor support, making user input much easier. The newer version is compatible with color DVT vision sensors and has buttons for inspection control, triggering, and custom commands. Furthermore, the unit allows for static bitmaps and offers support for the VDX communication protocol. Some versions of the hardware on the SmartLink provide a communication link to other industrial networks. During normal operation of this device, there are certain applications that require an operator for monitoring purposes.

While specific order options may differ, the SmartLink package is usually configured with a SmartLink unit, such as the DVT-SLP, and a power supply – CON-6901. It is usually best to use the small power supply provided to connect the SmartLink to a breakout board that is already under power. Also, the package is typically shipped with an Ethernet cable, a Serial RJ-12 cable and a Serial Adapter, which allows for easy connection to a PC.

The hardware for SmartLink is a DIN rail mountable device. This is powered by 24V DC. The standard version has four connectors on the front; RJ-12 x 1, RJ-45 x 1, HD-15 x 1 and a power connector.  The unit also provides a video signal output, which users can view with any standard VGA monitorThe hardware for this product is running firmware, similar to a DVT vision sensor. This firmware must be downloaded on a PC, via the serial port. Once done, the SmartLink can use this firmware to manage TCP/IP connections to the vision sensors. It also supports the video functions on the system.

Another great feature of this system is that the user interface enables the operator to create a customized monitoring application. This looks similar to a Windows program and allows users to display a range of images, tables and text with varying size and resolution on the video monitor. This flexible and customizable monitoring system makes for an easy and enjoyable user experience.
