Cognex DVT LEGEND 515 NO LGT. Note: Legend SmartImage Sensor CMOS, no Reader

Technical Information

The DVT 515 sensor is a smart image sensor manufactured by the Cognex Corporation. The sensor comes with a Texas Instruments processor. The amount of RAM available on the sensor is 64 MB. The sensor comes with 16 MB of flash memory which can be used to store more than 100 product files. The CMOS imaging chip supports a global shutter, 640 x 480 resolution, and a full frame rate of 60 frames per second. The communications options available on the DVT 515 sensor include 8 onboard digital I/O, one serial interface with an optional serial converter, and one 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface which supports auto cable crossover. A snapshot shutter at higher rates helps to reduce image blur for motion.

The Near IR capability on the DVT 515 smart image sensor allows for a sensitivity of up to 850 nm which provides better responsiveness to the IR light. Compared to the DVT 510 sensor, the DVT 515 smart image sensor offers 50% faster speed, 4 times the memory, and better image quality. However, the DVT 515 smart image sensor cannot be used as a drop-in replacement for the DVT 510 sensor because it has a comparatively larger pixel size. The conversion chart available from Cognex should be used when replacing DVT 510 with the DVT 515. Applications for the sensor include looking for device positions, bead width and gaps, indexing parts to allow for 1 second inspections, and confirming the dispensing of adhesive material. Target industries for the DVT 515 smart image sensor include automotive and consumer electronics. The use of the DVT 515 smart image sensor is not recommended for welding applications.
