The SST-PFB-SLC communication module, crafted by Allen-Bradley as part of their SST Cards series, is a critical component in industrial automation systems. Specifically designed for integration with Allen-Bradley SLC controllers, starting from the SLC 5/03 model and onward, this module operates as a Profibus Scanner Module strategically mounted within a single slot of the SLC 500 rack. Its primary function revolves around enabling distributed I/O and remote I/O architectures by facilitating communication with up to 96 Profibus slave devices. Each slave can transmit and receive up to 244 bytes of data through this module. The SLC interface supports up to 32 Words of direct input and output data and up to 1000 Words of M0 and M1 mapped data. The module hass LED status indicators, such as the COM indicator for network error detection and the SYS LED, which reports the operation status as DP master or DP Slave sequentially. It offers two communication ports: one RS232 serial configuration port and one Profibus communication interface. It accommodates various Profibus transmission rates, ranging from 9600 to 12 Megabaud, over varying cable distances. The recommended Profibus cable is Belden 3079A, with compatible alternatives from Siemens and Bosch. Allen-Bradley's blue hose cable with a 78-ohm impedance needs to be fixed. With an operational temperature range of 0-50 degrees Celsius, storage temperature of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, and a relative humidity level of 5-95%, this module ensures robust performance in diverse industrial environments. Furthermore, it has a backplane current consumption of 700 mA at 5 VDC.
