The Allen-Bradley SLC 503 processor is part of the very diverse SLC 500 series of processors. It provides the power needed to configure modular controllers which have a maximum of 4096 inputs and an additional 4096 outputs. These processors are equipped with either 8K or 16K memory. To add to the RH-485 port, the SLC 503 has an additional built-in RS-232-C port for communication. The two extra ports can be adjusted to accommodate ASCII or DF1 protocols. Configuring the RS-232 port for ASCII or DF1 communication enables connection to the 1761-NET-AIC converter, which facilitates a path to the DH-485 network.
The SLC 503 executes bit-instruction at 0.44ms times. Additionally, the SLC 503 has an extra throughput of up to 10 times. The SLC 503 also features online programming, runtime editing, flash memory upgrades, a key switch, a real-time clock and calendar, which are all built-in. The SLC 503 has a battery-backed RAM, EPROM or EEPROM. The SLC-500 series offers options to incorporate Remote I/O using the 1747-SN scanner module. DeviceNet I/O can be added using the 1747-SDN scanner module, and with the 1747-BAS module users can accommodate BASIC programming options. The SLC 503 also has an Ethernet and DH+ communication ports.
The SLC 503 is powered by an external power supply attached to the 1747 I/O chassis. Users can track the function of the external power supply through the LED indicators featured on the panel. Users also have the option to select AC or DC power supply. The AC power supply ranges from 120-240V.
