Providing two hardware options to choose from, the fixed controller and the modular controller options, the Allen-Bradley SLC 502 processor features all the functionality found in the SLC-500 family of processors. By giving many options to choose from in the power supply, I/O and processor choices, the modular hardware options assure a malleable system for configuration. The fixed controller hardware option incorporates the processor plus the power supply all in one place.
The SLC 502 has unique I/O modules for system control enhancement. Additionally, it has 4K instruction program memory with no additional data storage. The SLC 502 has 4096 discrete inputs with the same number of outputs. The processor has a total of 330 slots and can accommodate 71 programming instructions, 4.8ms/K scan time and 2.4µs execution. For communication, the SLC 502 uses the DH-485 and can take or start communication with other nodes.
The SLC 502 relies on an outside power supply for operation. The power supply must be mounted on the 1746-I/O chassis with the option to choose from 7 power supply options, 3AC and 4DC. The SLC 502 makes it possible to configure modular controllers which have a maximum of 4096 inputs and the same number of outputs. The SLC 502 also has a 4K instruction memory. To graft a Remote I/O or a DeviceNet I/O to the system, consider incorporating a scanner module to one of the 30 I/O slots available. The Remote I/O or the DeviceNet gives room for 19 extra instructions. These extra instructions incluse message instructions to use when launching peer-to-peer communication.
