The Allen-Bradley 1747-SN is a remote input/output scanner module that communicates with the 1746 backplane SLC processor. Its compatibility spans across 502, 503, 504, and 505 processors. It helps SLC processors to gain high-speed remote communication to Allen-Bradley operator interface and control devices. This scanner is used with the universal remote input/output network if the application requires either distributed controllers for each to have I/O communications along with a supervisory controller or connections between I/O adapters and controllers.
The 1747-SN requires G-file configuration. It uses a backplane current load of 600mA at 5V DC. It is compatible with the Belden 9463 cable and it offers noise immunity over different cable lengths dependent on the baud rate. Devices making use of this connection can span a distance of up to 10,000 feet. Its extended node capability facilitates the complementary mode, in which the 1747-SN is able to support connections from up to 32 devices. It can support up to 16 devices in normal mode. The extended node capability can only be used if all the remotely connected devices possess extended node capability. The 1747-SN allows the transfer of large amounts of data without compromising the system throughput.
According to the 1747-SN manual, it can transfer and be configured for up to 4 discrete data logical racks. It communicates with devices in remote locations via the Allen-Bradley Remote Input/Output (RIO) Link. The RIO link is configured to have 1 master device, which is a scanner and manages many slave units called adapters. The 1747-SN can be installed in any slot of the SLC chassis other than Slot 0.

The 1747-SN scanner is an SLC 500 remote I/O scanner manufactured by Allen-Bradley. It offers a high-speed communication medium between an SLC processor and a remotely located I/O chassis from the 1746 series. It provides remote communication at up to a distance of 3048 meters. It is equipped with a remote I/O link that is used for communication. The remote I/O link has a master scanner and multiple slave adapter units. The backplane current load for the I/O scanner is 600 milliamps at 5 Volts DC. The 1747-SN scanner can connect up to 16 devices in the normal mode or 32 devices in the complementary mode. It makes use of block transfers. The I/O scanner is able to download and change applications in PanelView series terminals and power monitors by using the remote I/O. The remote I/O scanner has a maximum thermal dissipation rating of 4.5 Watts.
The front section of the Allen-Bradley 1747-SN SLC 500 remote I/O scanner has LED indicators to show normal communication and fault status updates. The scanner module allows the users to record the configured baud rate easily from the front side. A RIO link connector is also included and it allows for connection with RIO link devices. To secure the module in the chassis slot, a self-locking tab is present. A Baud rate DIP switch is present on the side that lets the users set the baud rate. The 1747-SN scanner supports different baud rates of 57.6, 115.2, or 230.4 kbaud. The I/O scanner has an open enclosure and it should only be used inside the chassis.
The 1747-SN scanner is a Remote I/O scanner by Allen-Bradley. It has a thermal dissipation rating of 4.50 Watts.
