The Allen-Bradley 1747-PSD is a Program Storage Device in the family of SLC-500 controllers. Without the need of a computer program, the 1747-PIC can backup data from the MicroLogix, SLC-5/04, SLC 5/05 and MicroLogix 100.11001200 and 1500 controllers and processors. The 1747-PSD connects to the SLC 5/03, 5/04, and 5/05 processors through channel D RS-232 using a 1747-CP3 cable. It connects to the MicroLogix 1000,1100,1200, and 1500 control systems through channel D RS-232 using the 1761-CBL-PM02. For industrial programming station, it uses the COM1/COM2 serial ports using the 1747-CP3 cable. On the front panel, the 1747-PSD has a power supply, a connector, red and green LED indicators, a push button, selector switch and an RS-232 port. The back panel has the battery housing.
The function of this storage device in the SLC 500 family is to store PLC programs. The 1747-PSD ensures all the downloaded or uploaded programs are compatible with the target PLC by error-checking before an upload or a download. The 1747-PSD consumes between 7-30V DC from an external power supply at a maximum of 250mA. Operating temperatures for the unit should remain between 0-60 degrees Celsius (32-140 degrees Fahrenheit). The 1747-PSD features a red and a green LED light to help trace an upload or a download. It uses the Flash EPROM memory which has a capacity of 64K. When the 1747-PSD is powered by 2 AAA size batteries, it shuts down for 30 seconds after an operation due to its battery saving feature being activated.
By using the 1747-CP3 or the 1761-CBL-PM02 cables, the 1747-PSD can be connected to the PLC with communication rates between 1200-38400bps. The 1747-PSD performs an 8-bit error check with 1 stop bit and no parity bit. Note that channel controllers configured for the DH-485 will not communicate with the 1747-PSD. They use the 19200-communication rate for faster recognition.
