The Allen-Bradley 1747-KE is a DH-485/RS-232C Interface Module. The interface module is utilized for communications purposes. The 1747-KE functions as a bridge to connect DH-485 networks and devices which require DF1 protocol. The DF1 port on the 1747-KE may be configured for RS-232/423, RS-422, or RS-485 devices. The 1747-KE can be used as an interface device by connecting remote DH-485 networks to a central host by a modem.
The 1747-KE has several useful features, including three communication ports, eight LED indicators, and jumpers. The communication ports found on the front of the module are labeled CONFIG, DF1, and DH485. The CONFIG port may be used to configure the 1747-KE with an ASCII terminal. It operates at speeds of 300, 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, and 19200 Kbps, and it is isolated at 500V dc. The DF1 port allows for connections to a modem or other devices which utilize DF1 capabilities. It operates at the same speeds as the CONFIG port and is also isolated at 500V dc. The DH485 port is used for interfacing the module with the DH-485 network. This port is not isolated. LED indicators found on the module are used for diagnostics and operator interface. Jumpers JW1, JW2, and JW4 allow selection on the interface for each individual port.
The types of modems which the 1747-KE supports are manual, DTE controlled answer, auto answer, and direct connect. To connect a modem, use DF1 protocol.
