The 1747-CP3 by Allen Bradley is a cable that is used for programming SLC 5/03 and 5/04 processors. This cable connects to the RS232 communication ports on these processors and is also compatible with SLC 5/05 processors. It works with the 1747-UIC network interface. In these processors, the 1747-CP3 cable can be used to connect the 1747-UIC interface on the processor to the USB port on a personal computer; it may also go from channel 0 on the processor to the serial port on the personal computer. The 1747-CP3 can be used to connect the following DH-485 equipment to the processor through the RS-232 port: CompactLogix, FlexLogix, ControlLogix and 1761-NET-AIC (AIC+) Advanced Interface Converter. This cable can be used to connect SLC and MicroLogix controllers to the PanelView Series Component Terminal. To prevent the 1747-UIC from suffering from electrostatic damage, ensure that it is connected to a properly grounded DH-485 interface or device before connecting to the USB port on the computer. When connecting the computer to the processor, if the computer has an X on the processor icon, that means that communication with the processor, is not taking place. In this event, ensure that the cable is plugged securely into the respective ports and the correct communication driver is installed.
The 1747-CP3 is equipped with internal jumpers on each end. Approximately 3 meters (9.8 feet) in Iength, it is also referred to as the “9 pin Shell to 9 Pin D Shell Null Modem Cable.” It follows the 89/336/EEC Council Directive for electromagnetic compatibility. It has been designed and tested for industrial environments and it has met the standards set forth by 73/23/EEC Low Voltage, Part 2.
