The Allen-Bradley 1747-ASB is an I/O adapter module of the SLC 500 family. It is an SLC 500 single-slot, RIO communication link module. On the Remote Input Output (RIO) link, the 1747-ASB can be used as either a slave or as an adapter. It can also be a master of the remote chassis, plus the remote expansion chassis into which it is mounted. The 1747-ASB acts as a go-between the scanner and I/O modules. The SLC/PLC processor image is mapped from the I/O modules in remote chassis and the remote expansion chassis. The RIO link is responsible for the transfer of output data amidst the SLC/PLC scanner and the 1747-ASB module. The data is transmitted to output modules in the chassis backplane from the 1747-ASB module back to the scanner. Note that no manual programming from the user is required.
The 1747-ASB does not recognize an expansion chassis and treats all slots as if they were mounted on one chassis. In total, the 1747-ASB module influences 30 slots. Slot 0 must be assigned to the 1747-ASB module for it to influence all the 30 slots. An error will occur each time you install an extra module in the 31st slot. The SLC and the PLC don’t follow the same addressing protocol. The image bit numbers of the 1747-ASB are 0-7, 8-15 decimal when the SLC processor is used, and the image bit numbers of the 1747-ASB are 0-7, 10-17 octal when a PLC processor is used.
