The Allen-Bradley 1746-IC16 is a general purpose digital input module. It falls under the SLC-500 family. Controllers in this family have between 20-40 digital I/O. The 1746-IC16 features 16 inputs. With an expansion chassis, the I/O can be increased to have up to 64 digital I/O. This is facilitated by 2 additional I/O modules. All digital modules in this family, like the 1746-IC16, offer system flexibility during configuration. Users can facilitate personalization with the modular hardware option which offers unlimited flexibility. The 1746-IC16, along with the other modules in the SLC 500 family, offers a wide range of memory, I/O capability, Instruction set and communication choices. This enhances the development of unique systems, bringing ideas and innovations to life. The other hardware option is the fixed controller option. With this option, you have the power supply, the I/Os and processors all in one place. An additional feature of the 1746-IC16 is two extra expansion slots by use of an expansion chassis.
The 1746-IC16 requires a working voltage of between 30-50V with 48V DC as the normal working voltage. The 1746-IC16 has 16 I/O points with an operating wattage of 0.22 watts per point and a minimum of 0.425 watts. This provides a total of 3.95 watts for the module. The backplane voltage of the module at 5V is 50mA and at 24V is 0 mA.
